Frequently asked question for Doors in Singapore

If your HDB flat originally came with a fire-rated door, you can replace it with another fire-rated door. However, if the existing main door is not fire-rated, you may opt to replace it with a non-fire-rated or laminate door.

Fire-rated main doors are required by the Fire Code in certain situations, such as when the main doors are within 3 meters of a lift lobby or staircase. If your HDB flat is situated within this distance, you must install a door with a 30-minute fire rating.

You can paint your HDB main door, as it often needs fresh coats of paint. You can view some of our fire rated door designs here.

Fire-rated doors are generally more expensive than standard internal doors because they are made from solid timber or fire-retardant materials such as steel. The price varies based on the door’s size and style.

The most reliable way to identify a fire-rated door is by checking for its certification label, typically located on the top or bottom of the door. If you see a circled “UL,” “WH,” or a fire label, it indicates the door is fire-rated. Additionally, fire-rated doors are designed to remain closed, and any gaps between the doors are filled with fire-resistant sealant.
